Improvised Explosive Devices (I-E-Ds) were found in Makkimala forest area of Wayanad. The landmine was found by Forest watchers. The forest has earlier reported Maoist activities in the past as well.
The police have found explosive devices in the Makkimala forest area under the North Wayanad forest division in the of Kerala. The area lies under the jurisdiction of Thalapuzzha police Station.
The Forest Watchers noticed some packets buried under suspicious circumstances near the fencing in the Makkimala area on Tuesday and informed the Police Authorities.
The recovered object found is reported to be an Improvised Explosive Devices,
(I-E-Ds).
After being informed, The Police, including the Thunderbolt officers arrived and conducted an inspection and the explosives were found.
The area from where the incident is reported lies under the jurisdiction of Thalapuzzha police Station.
Several Media outlets have reported that Explosive was found on a path that the Kerala Thunderbolts, an elite group of highly trained police officers, often traverse. This has added utmost seriousness to the incident.
The bomb squad reached the spot and defused the explosives.
Although the explosives were defused, searches continued in the region to detect the presence of more explosives.
The forest area has reported Maoist activities in the past as well.
The preliminary conclusion is that the landmine was planted by Maoists.
